A two-storey factory in West Sussex has been badly damaged by a fire thought to have been started by intruders.

Emergency services called to the fire at Y & B Plating in Priestly Way, Crawley, found large amounts of smoke billowing from the first floor.

Sussex Police said a petrol can and lighter were found at the scene and it is believed one or more intruders got into the factory through a skylight.

Fire and police investigators are awaiting the results of forensic tests.

Fire appliances from Horley, Crawley and Haywards Heath attended the blaze just after midnight on Tuesday.

Police said significant damage was caused to the electroplating factory and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
