Man sought over attempted rape of girl in Hastings

A man who grabbed a 17-year-old girl and attempted to rape her is being sought by police in East Sussex.

The girl, who was unhurt, was walking along Old London Road, in Hastings, on Saturday evening when she was pulled to an area behind public toilets.

Police said she managed to fight off the man and run away.

The man was described as white, skinny, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in tall, and wore a black waterproof hooded jacket, black or navy jeans and black trainers.

Curly hair

Officers have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack - at about 1820 BST - to contact them, in particular a man the girl ran past, who was standing by a gate to a property near a speed camera.

He was white, aged in his 40s, with brown curly hair and was wearing a brown jacket.

They would also like to talk to a man who, at around 1800 BST was standing at the toilets, and who they believe could be the suspect.

He was wearing a black jacket and a group of people - a man, two women and a child in a pushchair - were waiting for him in Harold Road.
