A three-year-old boy who went missing from Hailsham in East Sussex has been returned safe and well, police said.

Jack Howlett was reported missing by his mother at 0845 BST on Friday and was last seen when she put him to bed on Thursday.

Sussex Police said he was brought into Hailsham police station at about 1330 BST on Saturday.

The force said Jack appeared to be fine and would be reunited with his mother as soon as possible.

Ch Insp Julia Pope said: "We are pleased that Jack has been returned and is being reunited with his mother.

"We do not know where he has been but believe he has been looked after and is fine.

"I would like to thank the media and the public for supporting our efforts in finding Jack."
