Van stolen in Crawley 'may be used for crime'

Warnings that a stolen van may be used by distraction burglars or "cowboy" builders have come from Sussex Police.

Officers said the van that was stolen in Crawley had "Apollo Group" on the side of the vehicle with a picture of a builder in a hard hat.

Police said people who were approached by workmen claiming to represent the firm should check their identity.

The van was stolen from Apollo Group tradesmen who were carrying out renovation work in the area.

'Driver forced out'

Police believe the van, which had the registration number EG04 WNT, could still be in the Crawley area.

Officers said the driver of the Ford Transit van was approached by a number of people at about 0940 BST on Saturday in Ewhurst Road and forced from the vehicle.

Anyone who has seen or spots the van has been asked to contact the force or dial 999 immediately if it is being driven or if there are people with it.

Police said people could phone 01293 590066 to check the identity of anyone claiming to represent the Apollo Group.
