Thieves steal gold jewellery from Burgess Hill store

Thieves used a drain cover to smash their way into a jewellery store at a shopping centre in West Sussex.

Sussex Police said gold jewellery was stolen during the raid on Spinks Jewellers in Martlets shopping centre in Burgess Hill overnight on Tuesday.

The thieves smashed their way through a KFC restaurant using a drain cover before they used the same object to break open the front door of Spinks.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Nothing was taken from the KFC during the burglary.

Det Con Glenn Fisk said: "We we would like to hear from anyone who was in Burgess Hill town centre in the early hours of this (Wednesday) morning and who saw anything suspicious.

"We'd also like to hear from anyone who is offered gold jewellery at what seem to be cut prices locally in the coming days and weeks."
