Hastings bungalow fire treated as arson

A fire outside a Sussex bungalow that led to nearby properties being evacuated and a family being rehoused was an arson attack, police have said.

Emergency teams were called to the fire in Carpenter Drive, Hastings, at about 2300 BST on Monday.

Det Sgt Julie Gable, of Sussex police, said: "This is a serious offence and very distressing for the two adults who were inside the house at the time."

She said one person was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Property 'unfit'

Surrounding properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure, during the incident.

The bungalow was significantly damaged by the fire which started outside the front door, and the property was left unfit for habitation for the foreseeable future, she added.

The occupants have been temporarily rehoused.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact the force or Crimestoppers.
