Boss charged over worker's fatal Bognor Regis fall

The head of a maintenance firm has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence after the death of a worker in West Sussex.

Employee Shane Offer, 21, of Lancing, fell through a skylight while working at a Rosebys store in Bognor Regis in June 2009.

Managing director of Southern Property Maintenance, Richard James, has been charged over the death, police said.

Mr James, 36, of First Avenue, Worthing, is due in court this month.

After the incident last summer, Mr Offer was flown to the Royal London Hospital in east London, but he died from his injuries.

He had been working on the roof of the store when he fell.

His boss is due to appear before magistrates in Chichester on 24 September, Sussex Police said.

Home furnishings chain Rosebys has gone into administration.
