Two injured as trailer strikes car on A267 at Hellingly

A man has been arrested after a female motorist received potentially life-threatening injuries when a trailer broke free from a car in East Sussex.

A Land Rover had been towing the trailer along the A267 at Hellingly, near Eastbourne, on Sunday afternoon.

It separated from the vehicle and crossed into the opposing northbound carriageway into the path of a Saab convertible, injuring the driver.

Her passenger, a woman in her 60s, was also seriously injured.

Police said the driver of the Land Rover, a 38-year-old man from Herstmonceux, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless/dangerous driving.
