No charge after Crawley toddler mauled to death by dog
The uncle of an 18-month-old girl who was mauled to death by his dog will not face prosecution over the incident.
Sussex Police said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Urfan Ahmed, 32, in connection with the death of Zumer Ahmed in Crawley.
Mr Ahmed was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following Zumer's death on 17 April at her home in Cotton Walk.
But Mr Ahmed has been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act with possessing another dog bred for fighting.
The animal referred to in the charge is not the dog which attacked Zumer, which was not a banned breed and was put down last month, police said.
Mr Ahmed is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on 27 July.
Following the attack, Zumer was taken by ambulance to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, where she was pronounced dead.
