Former Surrey detective inspector John Charles Erskine denies sex assaults

A former Surrey Police detective has pleaded not guilty to two sex offences dating back to 1991.

John Charles Erskine, 70, of Caterham, is accused of indecently assaulting a woman over the age of 16.

The alleged offences took place in the Redhill area while Mr Erskine was on duty as a detective inspector in East Surrey, a force spokeswoman said.

The charges, put to him at Guildford Crown Court, follow an investigation into claims made in 2014.

Mr Erskine is due to go on trial at the town's Crown Court in March 2017.
