Plans to create a rail link connecting Heathrow Airport with towns to the south are being investigated.

Surrey County Council has commissioned a study by engineering group Arup, saying 9,000 people from Surrey work at the airport, despite "no direct rail link" from the county.

The council has backed a connection between the airport and Guildford.

The report is expected to be published this summer.

Heathrow is currently in competition with Gatwick Airport over the construction of another runway. The decision is not expected until 2017.
