A fire at a sports centre in Horley in Surrey may be linked to five other blazes in the town and in Reigate over the last month, police say.

The fire at Oakwood Sports Centre in Balcombe Road was reported at about 22:00 BST on Sunday.

Police have described the fire as "suspicious" and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is investigating its cause. No-one was hurt in the blaze.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on 5 July over the earlier fires.

He was released on bail until 21 August, police said.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "At this stage officers are not ruling out that it is linked with other fires in the Horley and Reigate area, of which there have been five in the last month."

Fires were reported at Old Reigatian Rugby Club in Park Lane on 28 June and 12 July.

The came after blazes at Horley Lawn Tennis Club, in Vicarage Lane on 22 June, the Churchfields Bowls club in Church Walk, Reigate on 26 June, and at a property in Massetts Road, Horley on 2 July.

Crimestoppers has put up a reward of up to £2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprit.
