Thousands of new school places in Surrey

Twenty schools in Surrey will be expanded to create 3,800 new places.

The plans, announced by Surrey County Council, aim to have the places available for children after the 2015 summer holiday.

The council said it was the equivalent of building nine brand new two-form entry primary schools.

Cabinet member for schools and learning, Linda Kemeny, said the county had experienced a "huge increase" in demand for places.

"That is why we embarked on the biggest school expansion programme Surrey's ever seen with nearly £330m being invested," she said.
