Gold taken in targeted burglaries in Surrey

Burglars in Surrey have stolen tens of thousands of pounds worth of gold in several raids over the last two weeks.

Expensive Asian-style jewellery was taken in one burglary in Brook Road, Merstham.

Other break-ins took place in Nursery Road and Park Road in Sunbury, Feltham Hill Road in Ashford and Banstead Road, Caterham.

Officers believe gold was targeted because other possessions such as valuable electrical items were ignored.

"Due to the high value of Asian gold in particular, we tend to see spates of offences in which jewellery of this type is targeted," Surrey Police crime reduction adviser Liane Jarman said.
