Surrey Police charge two over £1,500 Reigate fraud bid

Two men have been charged with a fraud offence after an alleged attempt to dupe an elderly woman in Reigate out of £1,500 for building work.

Surrey Police said the woman, in her late 70s, received a telephone call in which she was asked for the money for the conservatory she was having built.

The woman became suspicious of the caller and alerted officers in March, PC Helen Simon said.

Officers arrested and charged two men with conspiracy to defraud.

One of the men was also charged with a further offence in connection with an alleged £1,895 fraud involving another woman in her 70s, from Tadworth, police said.

Both men are due to appear before South East Surrey magistrates next month.
