Surrey streetlight scheme ahead of schedule

A scheme to replace all 89,000 streetlights in Surrey is six months ahead of schedule, Surrey County Council has said.

In its third year, the scheme has so far either replaced or upgraded 60,000 lights in the county.

The council said the project would save £12m over the next 25 years through lower energy bills and a better deal with contractors.

It claims light pollution will be reduced due the angle of the lamps.
