Staines car with 43 parking fines removed from car park

A car has been removed from a Staines car park after the driver received 43 parking fines, a council has said.

Spelthorne council said it issued a warning notice in July and fines totalling £2,255 after the driver continued to park without paying.

The car was not registered with the DVLA and officers followed the man but he did not accept responsibility or give his name, a spokesman said.

The man had since been told to register the car to get it back, he added.

The owner made "swift contact" with the local authority after the vehicle was removed, he said.

But the council spokesman said the owner would now have to pay £105 to release the vehicle, £12 for each day the vehicle was stored, and £2,255 for the outstanding penalty charge notices.

He said because the council had been unable to make contact with the owner and pursue the debt through the court, removing the Vauxhall Corsa from the Elmsleigh Road pay and display car park was the only remaining option.
