IPCC inquiry after death of woman in Walton-on-Thames

The death of a woman following a fall from a first-floor flat in Surrey has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Frances Murray, 57, was seriously injured outside an address in Walton-on-Thames on Sunday evening and died in hospital the following morning.

The IPCC said Mrs Murray had twice called 999 earlier in the evening and Surrey Police had gone to her address.

It said it would investigate the contact between police and Mrs Murray.

IPCC commissioner Mike Franklin said: "We are investigating police actions and Mrs Murray's contact with the police control room over a short period of less than hour prior to her fall on the Sunday evening.

"Our investigators have met with Mrs Murray's family and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
