Cranleigh baker attacked arriving for work

A bakery worker was kicked several times in the head before being robbed as he arrived at work in Surrey.

The 49-year-old man was approached by the robber and asked for money at 0600 GMT on Saturday outside Celebration Cakes in Cranleigh High Street.

The attacker dragged him to the ground and kicked him before the victim handed over £5 and he ran off.

The victim was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital, where he was given stitches for a cut to his head.

"The victim was violently assaulted by a man he didn't know," said Det Con Dan Chant.

"It was an unprovoked attack on someone just trying to get to their place of work.

"I would like to speak to anybody who witnessed the incident and anyone who saw any men acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the offence."

The attacker is described as white, in his early 20s, and wearing a dark hooded top.
