Driver dies as car hits lamppost in Epsom

A man in his 70s has died after his car left the road and hit a lamppost in Surrey.

The accident happened just before 1000 GMT on Thursday in Hook Road, Epsom, near the old St Ebba's Hospital.

Surrey Police said the driver, a local man, was the only person in the Honda Jazz at the time.

Hook Road was closed for nearly three hours while accident investigators were at the scene. Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
