An ex-Royal Navy Vice Admiral has been appointed as the new chairman of a Surrey NHS trust.

Peter Dunt will join the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on 1 December and will chair the board of directors and council of governors.

Mr Dunt said: "I intend to do everything in my power to help to provide the best possible care for every patient."

He also sits on a number of boards of private sector companies.

Mr Dunt has been appointed on a salary of £35,000 per year, which the trust said was "£9,500 less than the national average for this post".

The trust has also appointed a new non-executive director and chair of the audit committee Jacqueline Burke.

Ms Burke previously sat on the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust board between 1998 and 2004.
