Car hits elderly woman pedestrian in Redhill

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after she was hit by a car in Surrey.

Police said the 83-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Vauxhall Astra driven by a 70-year-old man from Northamptonshire.

The crash happened on the A23 London Road in Redhill at about 0720 GMT on Sunday, police said.

The woman was taken to East Surrey Hospital and the car driver was unhurt. Officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact the force.
