Police questioning a woman on suspicion of murder after a Surrey widower went missing have been given more time to question her.

The woman, in her 50s from the Godalming area, was arrested on Wednesday morning. A 30-year-old man was arrested later.

Bill Williamson, 82, of Miltons Crescent, Ockford Ridge, has not been seen for almost a month.

Police are concerned for his safety and have issued a missing persons appeal.

His house is currently being searched.

Urgent appeal

On Wednesday, Det Insp Juliet Parker, from the major crime investigation team, said: "At this stage we are dealing with a missing persons inquiry.

"We do have a person in custody but we are keeping an open mind as to the disappearance of Mr Williamson."

She said officers were trying to piece together Mr Williamson's movements in recent weeks, and she urged anyone with information to contact the force urgently.

Mr Williamson used to live in Church Road, Milford, near Godalming, but moved to Ockford Ridge in early September.

Det Insp Parker said the last confirmed sighting of Mr Williamson was on 10 September, and police were anxious to hear from anyone who might have seen or heard from him since then.

He is described as white, about 5ft, with a heavy build, a southern accent, and white hair which was bald on top.
