Boy, 12, rescued from stream in Dorking after drinking

A 12-year-old boy had to be rescued from a stream in Surrey after drinking alcohol and getting into difficulties.

Police were alerted shortly after 2000 BST on Sunday by the boy's father after he failed to return home from Meadowbank Park, in Dorking.

He was found by officers 30 minutes later in a stream close to the park, distressed and unable to get out.

An ambulance was called, but the boy did not require hospital treatment and was taken home.

Surrey Police said the incident highlighted the dangers of underage drinking and should serve as a warning that drinking alcohol could have severe consequences.

The boy's father, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "This has come as a massive shock to me as my son has never done anything like this before.

"I have instilled the right values in him and he has learned the hard way the dangers of drinking."
