Appeal after taxi driver attacked in Esher High Street

CCTV images have been released of two women who may have information on an attack on a taxi driver outside a pub.

The pair witnessed the incident outside The George in Esher High Street in the early hours of 7 August.

Three men approached the driver and one walked away before the other two verbally abused him, pushed him in the chest and scratched his vehicle.

Surrey Police said the two women saw the attack and intervened but left the scene before officers arrived.

Man arrested

A police spokesman said: "This was a nasty incident where a taxi driver was subjected to sustained verbal abuse and physical intimidation.

"We are very keen to speak to speak to two women in their mid 20s who witnessed the incident and intervened.

"Unfortunately both women had left the scene before officers arrived and we believe they may be able to provide vital information to aid this ongoing investigation."

Officers and arrested a 40-year-old man from London on suspicion of common assault. He was bailed pending further inquiries.

The taxi driver was not injured during the altercation.
