Teenagers arrested after arson at Tadworth house

Two teenagers have been arrested after an empty house was set on fire by a lit object being put through the letterbox.

Neighbours who noticed the fire forced their way into the house in Merefield Gardens, Tadworth, Surrey and put out the flames using buckets of water.

They were later examined by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the fire, which took place at about 2300 BST on Saturday.

They were later released on police bail pending further investigations.

"Arson is a serious offence and people's lives are put at risk," said Det Con Leigh Wall.

"We believe this was an isolated incident and we are working closely with our colleagues at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service to identify who was responsible."
