Austrian Airlines plane targeted by laser over Surrey

A laser pen attack on an aircraft flying over Surrey is being investigated by police.

The laser was shone at an Austrian Airlines plane, which had just taken off from Heathrow Airport, shortly after 2200 BST on 17 July.

Surrey Police said the the laser pen was believed to have been shone from in or around Ashford Road in Staines.

Insp Sarah Greenhalgh said the laser could "blind or distract the pilot and puts everyone on board at risk".

"Laser pens can be very powerful and to shine one into the cockpit of any aircraft during flight is extremely dangerous," she said.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact Surrey Police.
