Stowmarket primary school shuts over gun fears

A primary school was forced to close after a man was spotted nearby with a gun in his bag.

Police officers, a dog unit and a helicopter were called to Danes Court Avenue in Stowmarket, Suffolk, near to Abbot's Hall Primary School, just before 09:00.

A man was located in Combs Lane and was arrested after a BB gun was found.

He has been taken to Bury St Edmunds for questioning. The school reopened after 45 minutes and no-one was hurt.

The 22-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence.
