A 15-year-old boy who fell unconscious in an outdoor pool in Suffolk has died in hospital, police have said.

The teenager had been at Beccles Lido last Thursday and was flown to hospital in Norwich before being transferred to Addenbrooke's in Cambridge.

Before his death was announced, the lido's directors had said the pool would be closed this Thursday as a "mark of respect".

In a statement they said their thoughts were with his family and friends.

Police were called by the ambulance service just before 18:40 BST to reports that a 15-year-old boy was unconscious in the water.

"At this stage there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and police will be preparing a file for the coroner," Suffolk Police said.
