Felixstowe beach pebble thief given police warning

A woman who took sacks of pebbles from a Suffolk beach to decorate her garden has been given a police warning.

The 39-year-old from Ipswich was seen by a member of the public taking the shingle from the beach at Felixstowe.

Suffolk Police decided the quantity taken amounted to "theft of council property" and gave her a verbal warning after she admitted taking the pebbles.

A council officer said the theft was "unacceptable" and could contribute to erosion and increase flood risks.

The woman was traced when her car registration was reported to the police by a member of the public.

She was said to have taken up to six sacks of pebbles on two occasions.

A spokesman for Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Council's coastal management team said: "Where there is evidence of this occurring the council will take action against those responsible."
