Great Finborough St George's School inquiry arrest

A man has been arrested as part of a police inquiry into abuse at a private school in Suffolk.

Officers have been investigating abuse claims at St George's School in Great Finborough near Stowmarket, which date from the 1980s.

A 59-year-old man from the Ipswich area has been arrested and is in custody at police headquarters at Martlesham.

Derek Slade, the former head teacher at St George's, was jailed for sexual offences in 2010.

St George's School was based at Wicklewood, Norfolk, before it moved to Great Finborough.

Slade was jailed for 21 years for more than 50 sex offences committed in Norfolk and Suffolk, between 1978 and 1983.

A teacher from the school, Alan Brigden, was jailed for five years earlier this year after admitting 14 sex crimes against boys in the 1970s and 1980s.

In 2011 another teacher, Alan Williams, killed himself after being arrested on suspicion of sex assaults at St George's, when it was at Great Finborough, in the 1980s.
