Plans for £12m Ipswich arts centre 'should have catered for live music'

An Ipswich musician has launched a campaign to build a live music venue in the town.

Andrew Culture said he was disappointed that plans for a £12m arts centre on the site of Ipswich Museum did not include provision for live music.

He said: "It's a shame that again original live music seems to have been overlooked. For years people have been after a mid-sized venue in Ipswich."

Ipswich Borough Council said it would be happy to discuss his ideas.

Mr Culture plays in These Are End Times and Zeeb and in 2003 launched the Ipswich Gigs website, which is now offline.

He has launched a new website,, which he hopes will generate ideas for a venue similar to Norwich and Colchester arts centres.

He said: "We're not yet building an Ipswich Arts Centre but we're answering a need for a discussion.

"I want people to go to the website, sign the petition and talk on the forum about how they think we can create an Ipswich Arts Centre."
