Suspected metal thief arrested after drain covers found

A suspected metal thief has been arrested after drain covers and tractor weights were found in a car stopped by police at a scrapyard in Suffolk.

Officers had been suspicious about the car's contents and spoke to the driver at Red Lodge on Monday, a police spokesman said.

The car, five heavyweight drain covers and six tractor weights were seized.

A 27-year-old man from Newmarket was arrested and bailed on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods.

Police said inquiries were now being made to establish where the drain covers and weights came from.
