No charges over 'gun' car crash in Ipswich

Five people will not be charged following an incident when a man was thought to be seen with a gun after two cars crashed near a Suffolk school.

Police were called to an area near Chantry High School in Ipswich on 17 May to reports of shots being fired after a car crash.

Four men from Ipswich and a 17-year-old boy from London were held on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm.

Suffolk Police said no firearm was ever found.

A spokeswoman said no further action would be taken against the men.

She said: "The decision to take no further action against the five men arrested followed a thorough investigation by Suffolk Police, which included extensive witness enquiries, a comprehensive forensic plan and trawling and viewing of CCTV."

During the incident, roads were cordoned off and armed police set up a containment area.
