The fire broke out at the Rumenco factory in Burton-upon-Trent
A large fire at an animal feed factory in a suburb of Burton-upon-Trent had disrupted travel and left some homes without water and power
Firefighters from five stations were called to Rumenco, in Derby Road, at 07:40 BST following reports of a plume of smoke.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said part of Derby Road had been closed.
There are no reports of people being hurt.
Staffordshire Police said all staff had been accounted for.
Residents have been asked to close windows and doors and nearby businesses and households may have their water supply and power disrupted, the fire service says.
Staffordshire Police said the road closure went up to the slip roads on and off the A38 and Hawkins Lane. Motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
CrossCountry rail services between Derby and Burton were also suspended because of smoke affecting the line.
