A level crossing in Cheshire could close after a series of near misses, Network Rail has warned.

The organisation said in recent weeks children had been pictured standing on the line on the footpath level crossing at Brookhouse Farm, near Alsager.

In two incidents last month children were also reported to have been "playing chicken" on the line at Alsager station.

It follows the closure of a crossing in Stone, due to "dangerous misuse".

Nick Jordan, from Network Rail, said closing Brookhouse Farm was one option, but it was working with local schools to educate children of the dangers.

"From the images we've seen, people aren't understanding how dangerous the railway can be," he said.
