A "large quantity" of watches and jewellery have been stolen in a raid by thieves on a shopping centre in Stoke-on-Trent.

The gang targeted the Beaverbrooks store at about 02:30 GMT at the Intu Potteries centre in Hanley, police said.

A fire was also started at the main entrance to the centre.

Officers said the offenders fled the scene "within minutes" and the value of the stolen items was not yet known.

Some offenders were wearing face coverings.
