Man detained after Rugeley officer shot in eye
A man arrested after a police officer was shot in the eye has been detained under the mental health act.
The officer was shot with what is believed to be an air rifle when he was called to a property in Rugeley, Staffordshire, on Sunday night.
He has undergone surgery and is now recovering in hospital, a police spokesman said.
A 34-year-old man arrested at the scene is currently being treated at a psychiatric unit
Police said he would be questioned at a later date when he had been medically assessed.
Detectives have called for witnesses to come forward.
