The family of a motorcyclist who died in a crash with a car in Staffordshire has been paying tribute to him.

Charity fundraiser Michael Thompson, 57, of Bradwell, Newcastle-under-Lyme, died at the junction of Bradwell Lane and Clare Avenue on 3 May.

His children Mark, Lee, Emma and Rachel Thomson said: "We are deeply shocked at what has happened and are devastated by our loss.

"He was a great man who would go out of his way to help others."

Mr Thompson raised thousands of pounds through his runs in the Potteries marathon, the Potters 'Arf and the London marathon, sometimes dressed in a joke police uniform.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is under way.
