Raids target fake tobacco in Staffordshire
Seven arrests have been made and about 100,000 illegal cigarettes seized during raids targeting supplies of counterfeit tobacco in Staffordshire.
Illicit tobacco surfacing in Burton-upon-Trent, has been a problem "for many months", the county council's trading standards department said.
A number of business premises were searched in Staffordshire.
Previous tests have found substances such as glass and even animal droppings in the counterfeit products.
Tobacco had been seized containing "the stalks of the plant" along with "sweepings off the floor, dust matter and things like that", said trading standards spokesman Nigel Cotton
"On analysis we've found animal droppings in tobacco, obviously very injurious to human health," he said.
