A two-month project has begun to repair a railway bridge in Staffordshire that has repeatedly been hit by oversized vehicles.

An incident in 2010 "significantly weakened" the bridge over Old Hednesford Road in Cannock, according to Network Rail.

The work will both strengthen the bridge and reduce the risk of it being hit by vehicles, a spokeswoman said.

The bridge will be closed to traffic while the work is carried out.

The Cannock line links Walsall to Rugeley.
