Endon village police station to close

A village police station in Staffordshire is to close at the end of the month.

Two officers covering Endon and nearby areas will move to a base in Leek.

Police said the move from the Leek Road post was not about cutting costs and neighbourhood officers would be visible in more places.

Christina Jebb, a parish, district and county councillor for Endon, said it was "absolutely essential" to keep a police presence in the village.

Insp Claire Riley, who is in charge of the Staffordshire Moorlands area, said the public did not have access to the Endon station.

"What I don't want as the local policing team commander is to have my officers sat in posts or police stations where the community can't access them," she said.
