Job losses are certain as Leek-based Slimma is sold

Leek-based clothing firm Slimma is selling its Splendour and Slimma brands, with inevitable job losses.

The firm, which employs about 50 staff, sold both brands to the N Brown Group for £800,000 and will have to change its name to CDU plc.

Taken together, the brands lost £455,000 in the year to October 2010.

The new company will still make the Frank Usher and Michel Ambers range, but its head office on Barngate Street will be sold.

In June 2009 Slimma announced a 95% decrease in profits, blaming the recession.

In a statement, it announced redundancies would follow the sale.
