Teenager charged over Israr Ellahi's death in Tunstall

An 18-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a father-of-three from Staffordshire.

Israr Ellahi, a 30-year-old mechanic from Tunstall, died in hospital on 1 July of head injuries.

He was injured during a disturbance in Roundwell Street, Tunstall on 18 June.

The 18-year-old has also been accused of violent disorder and affray and is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle-under-Lyme on 8 December.

Conditional bail

Four other people from Stoke-on-Trent have been charged with violent disorder over the same incident, and are also due in court on 8 December.

Two are 17-year-old youths and two are men aged 29.

One of the 17-year-olds was also charged with affray and all five accused have been released on conditional police bail.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said the Crown Prosecution Service's decision to charge followed a complex police inquiry and Mr Ellahi's family had been informed.
