A woman who died while canoeing with friends near the border between Staffordshire and Cheshire has been named.

Jane Halliday, 33, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, went missing on the River Dane, near Gradbach, Buxton, on Sunday.

After a full-scale search her body was found 300 metres (984ft) from where she capsized, Staffordshire Police said.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

A police spokesman said: "Ms Halliday's canoe had overturned and she was carried downriver due to the strong current."

Ambulance and fire crews, rescue boats and a police helicopter with a thermal imaging camera were used in the search for her.
