Staffordshire Police joins sex offender scheme
Staffordshire Police has joined the Child Sex Offender Disclosure scheme.
The scheme was piloted in Warwickshire, Cambridgeshire, Cleveland and Hampshire and then rolled out to other forces.
The project has also become known as "Sarah's Law" after a campaign by the mother of Sarah Payne, who was abducted and murdered by a paedophile in 2000.
Police say they do not believe giving parents details about whether someone with access to their children is a sex offender would spark vigilante attacks.
The Home Office said more than 60 children had been potentially protected from abusers during the pilot scheme.
