Man arrested in Wombwell house murder inquiry

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 73-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death.

The body of Jill Hibberd was discovered in the living room of a house in Roy Kilner Road, in Wombwell, near Barnsley, on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination revealed she died as a result of multiple stab wounds, South Yorkshire Police said.

A 40-year-old man from Barnsley who was arrested on suspicion of murder is being held in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Jude Ashmore said Ms Hibberd is not believed to have any immediate family.

She said: "Our thoughts are with Jill's friends at this sad time.

"Detectives continue to work tirelessly to build a picture of Jill's background and determine the events that led to her death."

South Yorkshire Police have also issued an appeal to locate an red Audi TT, registration YM17 SYJ, which they believe was taken from the driveway of the house at about 21:00 BST on Wednesday.
