Rotherham councillor guilty of sex assault at council event

A Labour councillor in Rotherham been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a council event.

Andrew Roddison, 41, of Flatts Lane in Treeton, had pleaded not guilty to the charges at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

He has been bailed and is to be sentenced at the same court on 1 December.

The assault happened at an event that followed a parade in Rotherham in May, said West Yorkshire Police.

The local authority said: "The council's Code of Conduct clearly describes the high standards of behaviour which are expected of all elected members.

"We now await the sentencing."

Roddison was elected in May 2011 and has been suspended by the Labour Party.
