Man, 70, bound and gagged in Barnsley home raid

A 70-year-old man was tied up, gagged and threatened with a knife during a raid at his home in Barnsley.

The victim was attacked by a masked intruder who claimed he was a police officer as he opened the door of his Rowland Street home in Royston.

His hands and feet were left bound with his mouth covered, on Thursday night, before his cries for help were heard on Friday and he was taken to hospital.

South Yorkshire Police said cash and a mobile phone was stolen.

Witnesses or anyone with information are being asked to contact police.
