Bogus police rob 92-year-old Rotherham woman

A 92-year-old woman has been robbed of about £400 cash when a couple posing as police officers called at her flat.

She suffered "significant bruising" during the robbery on Saturday at her flat in Bawtry Road, Rotherham, South Yorkshire Police said.

The couple, said to be in their 50s, entered the flat. The man restrained the elderly women and injured her arms as the female searched the flat.

Det Insp Steve Ashmore called the robbery a "despicable act".

The man was described as white, 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall and was wearing a blue anorak with a hood.

The woman was described as white, 5ft 4in (1.6m) tall and wearing a similar anorak.

Both spoke with a local accent, police said.
